at the end of the chapter,

and 

* fill in your character bookmark

with a few references to any new characters

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENT

WRITE THE FIRST BODY PARAGRAPH

OF ESSAY #6.

In the first body paragraph (8 sentence recipe)

you will write about the children's discovery  

in Chapter 10

of Atticus's expertise with a rifle. 

In the first chunk, 

explain how they discovered it,

and in the second chunk,

explain what the kids learned from the discovery.

Use a brief quote in each chunk,

and be sure to blend the quote smoothly 

into your own words to make a single smooth sentence. 

Here's an example by Edward:

"It seems to me that Scout did not understand that Arthur was the one giving them gifts though, and she even stated that she "bet that it was Miss Maudie Atkinson", and for that reason I believe that she was not as downhearted as Jem was. " 

        Notice that the quote blends into Edward's words to make a single smooth sentence.

Post the polished paragraph on your blog. 

I will check AND GRADE it tomorrow morning.

FINDING A GOOD SURPRISE ABOUT A PARENT

Thoroughly polish essay #5

and publish the polished version on your blog.

 * If you haven’t already,

add opening and closing paragraphs

 (four sentences in each)

In both, try to catch the reader’s attention,

and make sure the final sentence in the essay

is one of the most interesting sentences

in the entire essay.

*Go over the rubrics again,

making sure you’ve followed

all the guidelines. 

Also, go over the original assignment, 

and make sure you have included all the requirements.

* Check your classmates’ comments one final time.

Be sure you’ve paid attention

to their helpful advice.

* Make sure the “presentation” is accurate and complete.

*Do you have a “hooking” title

and an informative subtitle?

*Be sure you have added a careful self-assessment

at the bottom of your essay:

1. One writing issue you are continuing to work on

2. One strong point you see in this piece of writing

3. One possible weak point you see

4. The grade you would give yourself

2) Write your second body paragraph 

for the essay on CRYING.

In this paragraph (8 sentence recipe)

discuss your feelings and memories

about crying. 

Post this on your blog TONIGHT.

 

One chunk should be about your feelings about crying:

Here are some questions you might consider:

Is it OK to cry?

What does crying do for a person?

What are some of the reasons that people cry?

The other chunk should be about a specific memory about crying. 

It could be a time when you cried,

or when you saw someone crying. 

As with the first body paragraph,

please label your sentences, 

use excellent transitions,

and lengthen and enhance at least one sentence 

by using a PARTICIPLE at the end.
